Beware of Bad Bin Men

Beware of Bad Bin Men

Waterford City & County Council removed a whopping 1.4 tonnes of rubbish from a cliff face in Annestown last week - the result of some of the most despicable illegal dumping that we've ever seen.

Council staff have said that it was clear that the rubbish came from numerous different sources (they found lots of letterheads etc with multiple addresses) so they believe that it was the work of an illegal refuse collector i.e. a “man with a van or as we like to call him “the bad man with the van.“

"Getting rid of junk is annoying - everyone knows that - but using an illegal refuse collector is bad news," said Kollect Director John O'Connor.

"When you let your rubbish be collected by someone like this, you have no idea where it's going to end up.

What's more, there are now a number of prosecutions on the way. The Council will carry out enforcement orders on all the names and addresses that they found amongst the rubbish, and a Garda investigation will no doubt uncover the criminal with the van.

“There will be hefty fines for everyone involved in this, but the environment also pays dearly when people just dump rubbish on the side of the road or off a cliff."

“What's the point in getting a criminal record, and suffering a significant financial loss, for the sake of getting rid of your rubbish.
