Born in 1979. Member of the Board since 2019 and CEO OF Kollect since 2019.

Bio

John O’Connor has a BBS Degree from the University of Limerick and has 15 years’ experience as a founder and CEO running various start-up companies with online, retail and waste emphasis. He has secured investment on three different occasions and has successfully sold a business. A customer service fanatic and a passionate leader, John has a vision to lead Kollect to £1billion in turnover and beyond.  

John has extensive experience in the waste industry and has been the founder and CEO of two waste start-up companies, Kollect (2016), and The BIGbin Company (2010). Both of these companies have developed totally innovative and first-to-market B2C solutions and have created their own niches within the waste industry. BIGbin is the first waste drop-off company globally and has contracts with Top Oil and is about to scale locations nationally with Circle K. BIGbin, which is trading since 2010, is profitable. Both these businesses are driven by a vision to make it simple for people to get waste collected and recycled globally.  

John has led BIGbin and now Kollect to 6 major awards including Kollect being crowned Ireland’s most innovative start-up in 2017 at the National Start-up Awards. At Kollect, John and his team have built an exemplary employee culture that consistently delivers exceptional service experiences to an immensely loyal customer base.  

John is responsible for company strategy, day-to-day leadership, customer experience and strategic partnerships. His strengths are business development, business planning, digital marketing and team building.

Robbie Skuse

Born in 1992. Member of the Board since December 2019 and CIO of Kollect since December 2019.  

Education: Business Information Systems (‘BIS’) First Class Bsc (Hons) from University College Cork, National University of Ireland

Bio

Robbie Skuse, Chief Information Officer, graduated with 1st Class Honours in Business Information Systems (‘BIS’) from University College Cork, Ireland in 2014. BIS is a course finely spilt between computer science and commerce, giving Robbie a great skill set for entry into the entrepreneurial world. Before graduating, Robbie worked for Permanent TSB in Ireland and Fidelity Investments in Rhode Island, USA.  

Robbie began his entrepreneurial career by setting up two start-ups, LaunchFair and upChore before co-founding Kollect.  

Robbie has been heavily involved in the Irish start-up scene for some time, becoming Cork’s lead organiser for TechStars’ Start-up Weekend and a European Facilitator. Robbie was the lead organiser for the first Waterford Start-up Weekend in 2019, as well as facilitating at start-up weekends across Ireland.  

Robbie was a runner up in Ireland Best Young Entrepreneur Competition 2018. Having won the Waterford and South of Ireland region, Robbie represented Kollect at a National Level competing with Ireland’s best budding entrepreneurs. 

Robbie has been recognised nationally for his relentless work in Kollect and the Irish start-up scene and has twice been listed in Ireland’s “30 Under 30" (a list of the 30 young entrepreneurial and tech stars in Ireland).

Education: First Class BSc (Hons) in Sustainable Energy Engineering.

John is part of the management team.

Bio

John Hegarty is a qualified Sustainable Energy Engineer with extensive experience in operational roles. Prior to 2009, he spent 5 years as operations manager in a large law firm in Waterford city, managing 17 members of staff. He then spent 4 years as a self-employed energy assessor, carrying out hundreds of building assessments throughout Ireland. At this time, keen to develop his sectoral skills - while also self-employed - John returned to college and completed a degree in Sustainable Energy Engineering gaining 1st Class Honours.  

After meeting John O’Connor and Robbie Skuse, they collectively started a home cleaning platform called upChore before they set up Kollect. John has spent the last three and a half years working in the waste sector supporting the set up and management of a number of new verticals, helping to lead their aggressive growth strategies. John has extensive knowledge of the waste sector, particularly the logistical aspects of the business. This includes route mapping, segregation of waste streams, weighing technology and the different disposal and recycling options available in the sector. Over the past 3 years, John has gained valuable insight into fleet management and waste operations relating to junk removal, bin collection and skip rental.  

For the last 3 years, John has headed up the general day-to-day operations of the business. As the business has grown, he has been consistently training and handing over different verticals to other employees and has freed time to focus on improving operational and logistical efficiencies throughout the business.
