Mission: Our company mission is to create simple ways to collect and recycle waste, innovating in customer service and creating customer delight. Kollects waste platform instantly connects customers with top quality, pre-screened independent bin collectors, skip hire companies and junk providers at the most competitive prices.
Kollects business model is similar to Hailo, the on-demand taxi platform, but instead of moving people, we move waste. We have a national network of trusted independent waste contractors for Junk removal, Bin Collection and Skip Hire.We offer jobs out to the network via our platform as we receive them from our customers. Jobs are accepted by the nearest and best suited waste provider with spare capacity. Our platform connects us with our Service Partners as they undertake the jobs, so we can closely monitor and track how the job is progressing, and keep customers updated
Each and every one of our employees represent the spirit of our company:
Exceed Expectations: Deliver Wow through Customer Service.
Be You: Authentic, Positive, with a Can-Do Attitude
Honest: Be Straight Up, Always do right by our Customers.
Responsive: Be Prompt, Always Keeping Customers in the Loop
Meet John O’Connor, the brainchild behind Kollect. The eureka moment came when he operated the big bins that you see on petrol forecourts. People loved them but hated putting bins in their cars. He said “if only I could provide this service to people’s homes” This is when the Kollect idea was created. As you can already guess our John is a serial entrepreneur. You may even think that all his ideas are great but nothing could be farther from the truth. Thomas Edison once said “I failed my way to success” and this really sums up John. He was the owner of a Subway, a carwash, a gym business, a Christmas tree business, an online shop, solid fuel business and an online cleaning company…Yes, our John is quite the trier!
John finally got it right with Kollect though! He got together with his two co-founders and they put a team together and ran with it. John is the most determined and driven person we know. John is the person that made customer service Kollect’s number 1 priority, he reminds us daily that its all about the customer. John is married to patient and wonderful Niamh and has a darling son named James. There is nothing he likes better than spending time with his family, dressing James in the same clothes as him and running his heart out along the Williamstown road listening to Hip Hop.
With the sheer amount of work John takes on he can sometimes get a little “volatile” which keeps everyone in the office on their toes.
This is where his nickname of “The Volcano” came from….we told him it was because everyone thinks he is hot…Despite this though he is also a very generous person, he doesn’t talk about it himself but many of his friends would say how John has helped them out in times of need. When someone needs a dig out, John drops everything to help which is a quality that is very lacking in this day and age. John is a great guy to work with, and inspires everyone around him to see the long term vision and work towards it. He encourages people to succeed and excel in their roles. John has the uncanny ability of bringing out the best in the people around him and everyone here in Kollect love him for it. :) Johns interesting fact is that you will never be safe leaving a pen or iPhone charger around the office, as it will either be chewed to death or never seen again 😂
Robbie is one of Ireland's youngest chancers, and was already on his second start up by the age of 24. His title in Kollect is Head of Business Development which he successfully combines with that of Chief Office Cleaner. Robbie also enjoys the finer things in life and finds himself in the exclusive South Dublin suburb of Ranelagh 4 days a week. He can frequently be seen between the Tap House & McSorley’s and is also known to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner in the upmarket 5 star Butcher’s Grill.
Although the youngest in the office, he is without doubt the most sensible and level headed. He never losses his cool, which isn’t easy when you work in such a hectic environment. Robbie’s dedication is second to none, with him always being the last in the office to leave. He is a UCC graduate, with huge involvement in the Irish Startup Scene. Robbie was the lead organiser of Startup Weekend Cork, and current curates the Waterford Startup Digest and organises Waterford Founder Friday Meetup. Little known fact about Robbie: He drives the flashiest car in the office.#bemorelikerobbie
John Hegarty is a co-founder and our Head of Product, and so is responsible for all the cool features and simple usability. He works with Stjepan (who we’ve already meet) to make our business vision a reality.
John understands what the customer’s and staff needs are, and designs the best possible technical solution for it.
As a co-founder he wears many hats, and is always landed with the jobs nobody else wants to do, like accounts (dreadful), although this is mainly because he doubles up as the head of negotiations and is the man to secure the best possible deals.
John works best with both feet up on the table, and somehow he manages to find room for his feet between all the used coffee cups. He’s never been seen to tidy the office, and is without doubt the messiest man in the office.
John has two loves; his wife and golf. He used to be a very good golfer playing off less than 3, although this didn't show at our crazy golf outing, But his adoration has since moved on to his two small children Rose and Sean. John now struggles to spend time on the green with parenting two small kids. John brings humour to the tenses and stressful situations, which helps to calm everybody back down and focus on the resolution. Without John we would have a cleaner but more stressful environment. Johns dedication is clear to all, as even on the day his son was born, John loaded bins into his car and delivered them out to customers, this epitomises the fact that customers come first here at Kollect. :)
Introducing Stjepan 'Pavarotti' Cizmek Kollect's very own opera singer! Stjepan or Stephen (as he is lazily known in the office) is Kollect's Full Stack Developer. In plain simple English, this means that Stjepan is responsible for all the front-end and back-end development that is unseen to the customer. Stjepan and his team is responsible for creating the innovative on-demand booking technology that is Kollect.ie.
Stjepan is originally from a small sleepy village called Koniscina (population 5,000), which is near Croatia's capital Zagreb. His 2 loves are his partner Dunja and his adorable 2 and a half year old daughter Abie.
His biggest passion is music. He has been trained professionally as a singer, although this is a source of contention for many in the office as a result of his appalling humming of songs. Although in Stjepan's defence he did sing in a highly acclaimed Croatian choir. At weekend's and his time off Stjepan loves going to the gym and enhancing his natural Balkan physique! Stjepan like 99% of the Kollect team can be a touch on the grumpy side first thing in the morning, so as a result likes to catch up on some lost hours of sleep from his hectic schedule during the week.
Aine 'Multi-tasker' Curtin is central to how Kollect runs so efficiently and smoothly. She is quite literally the Mary Poppins of the office. As operations manager, she ensures the smooth running of all of our trucks and makes sure that all collection runs are completed with the minimum of fuss or hassle. She is totally aware that if anything goes wrong in any area of the business she will be blamed by management and deals daily with the threat of ‘it was your fault’. In her Mary Poppins role Aine also takes responsibility for organising team lunches, coffee rounds and keeping the snacks stocked.
Aine has a competitive (like serious) streak in her when it comes to crazy golf, where she can be found on the Tramore course 3 times a week. Unfortunately her bowling skills leave a lot to be desired, a bit like her parking where her car can be found across two spots on a weekly basis. 😂
Aine is not only the Operations Manager, she is central to all of the different departments at Kollect coming together and working as efficiently as possible and is a major reason why Kollect has been such a success so far. The two loves of Aine's life (outside of operations) are Barry, her husband and her son Cathal. Aine is originally from Youghal (by the sea) where she moved to Waterford 13 years ago to attend W.I.T & has never left . Aine seems to have disowned her Cork colours for the Deise Blue & White, however her accent still holds strong. Aine has a Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management and has spent the last 10 years working within the Irish and UK Telecommunications industry working her way up into a management role across which spread across all areas of the industry.
Meet Rosie Hoban, the real head of the Kollect team. Rosie is born & bred Deise & loves nothing more than cheering on the boys whether it be in Walsh Park or Thurles. As all of our customers will attest to, Rosie's caring manner along with her infectious laugh make a perfect mix for her lead role in our Customer Service team.
Rosie has a welcoming smile first thing in themorning (as opposed to the few grumpy faces that enter the office) till last thing in the evening, where she can be seen hurriedly trying to get the last few names on the driver's list for the following days collection. All of this, while trying to negotiate a safe passage for the very few customers (ahem) who miss the deadline of 5pm!!
The loves of Rosie's lives are her beloved partner John and her 4 daughters Karen, Jenny, Nicola and Kim and 6 grandchildren Luke, Jamie, Molly, Toby, Evie, and Millie dog's Roxy and Pippy the new addition.
Rosie spent fifteen years in Hasbro (now Cartamundi) where she worked her way up from general operator to stand in supervisor. Rosie took redundancy about ten years ago and decided to take a different career direction. Rosie attended college where she graduated with a distinction in business studies. Rosie's interesting fact is... Rosie is the one in a million that you are lucky to come across in life and we know our customers appreciate her just as much as we all here at Kollect do. 💕
Jimmy is responsible for customer experience and customer service. This role is at the heart of whatKollect is about. One of our core values is to exceed expectations and deliver wow through customer service, which Jimmy does day in and day out. Jimmy passions include leaving the office for "half an hour", only to return 6 hours later with a new tan, a fresh haircut and zero wrinkles (strong rumours about botox) Jimmy is also a keen gym goer & has been known to frequent the driving range out in Tramore on more than one occasion practising for the sole reason of trying to win the weekly Kollect crazy golf competition, he is an avid sports fan. However, fear not ladies. In Jimmy's own words, he is "single & ready to mingle" ;)
Jimmy's interesting fact is that he has a full blown American/Waterford accent and will often be heard mentioning the words "mam, parking lot, cellphone & awesome" defending these with long fascinating stories of his years spent living in Savanagh, Georgia. Turns out Jimmy went on holiday to Hawaii for 2 weeks in 2004 & never lost the accent.
On a serious note, Jimmy Graduated from Shannon College of Hotel Management in 1991 and has 25 years of front of house customer care & experience with Jurys Doyle's, Hyatt, Marriott, Sheraton, Holiday Inn Hotels. Jimmy is a very kind hearted person who goes out of his way to help others. The apple of Jimmy's eye is all of his nieces & nephews, he enjoys nothing more than spending time hanging out with them.
Pat is the latest addition to our Kollect team. After going through a rigorous interview process, known for being tougher than joining the navy seals, he started as Sales director two months ago. As with every job in Kollect he also has 10 other jobs. Pat has often signed up customers who were in desperate need of bins and like a rockstar, he personally delivers their bins later that evening to help them out. This is the essence of the Kollect culture always trying to do our best for customers.
Pat is very creative and has been very influential in bringing new marketing ideas to Kollect including providing video conferencing to the deaf community. We have been kicked out of numerous shopping centres citing crowd control issues since pat started because of his nak for attracting attention to himself. He is a big hit with the customers!
Our Pat is the quietest person you will ever meet......ahem......maybe in his sleep 😴 Pat talks like others breathe but we love the energetic passion he has for the business, he has been a great addition and we are delighted to have him on the Kollect team.
Pat is Married to the wonderful Fiona who has been great in keeping the kollect team fed on occasions with her amazing quiche 🤗 Pat has two wonderful boys Liam & Rian who mean the absolute world to him.
Interesting fact about Pat is that he has just retired from running his own successful bouncy castle business for the last number of years, he is also know as Mr. Funtastic and he sure brings that into the office, bouncing around the place. Pat brings great life to the office. He is always happy, always energetic and always creative. In his old job he brought fun to countless children and now he does the same to all the staff at Kollect.
Claire is the latest addition to the Kollective but has settled in very quickly. Being a big animal lover and an all round superstar worker she fits in very well around the office. Claire brings a well needed calmness to the bustling office. Claire is definitely a great addition to the Kollect team and we know we would be lost without her.
Claire heads up our SEO department (I don’t know what that means either) and also leads the social media/PPC department (No, we didn’t let her write this).
Since starting here you have probably noticed a big improvement to our Facebook page as we now actually post stuff. Claire is married to the lucky Stubear and they have a cat and a dog who they treat like royalty. Not all animals hold such a strong place in her heart, Just ask the HUGE spider that lives on the windowsill behind her. No one in the office has the heart..or bravery to kill it so poor Claire must learn to live with her new friend. Claire can also be found with blueprints of the Vic pub in Tramore as she plans to steal their beloved cat. Be warnedThe Victoria House. Claire has been late into work every Monday for the past 3 weeks and we just cant understand why….when we mention it to her she just says stuff like “Winter is Coming” or shouts “Lord of the Eyrie and Defender of the Vale”...Honestly I don’t have a clue what she’d be going on about. Interesting fact about Claire is that she is a secret sci-fi nerd, who loves nothing better than watching films with her hubby stubear and pips while enjoying a nice glass of wine. Ah yes, Our Claire enjoys the finer things in life. 😂

Made the switch before Christmas and have found the service to be great. Excellent value and a suitably prompt service. I don't have to think about bin day anymore, I just have to think "Is the bin full yet"?
Credit where its due. I completely forgot to put out the bin last night/this morning and rather than drive on/ignore it the bin collector knocked the door to remind me. Thanks
Thanks a million lads, I just started using you this week for all 3 bins were full and there wasn't a problem with any of them. I was sick of paying a 'service' charge for nothing. This is so easy and convenient
