No, we do not require you to be there. Please make sure to communicate with our staff prior to the delivery of the skip any specific instructions you may have regarding where you would like it placed. Also, please make sure that the driver of the lorry that will be collecting the skip will have access on the day that it will be removed.
The delivery, collection, and removal of your waste are all included in the cost of renting the skip. If you are looking for an alternative solution, why don’t you give our junk removal solution with a man and a van a shot? It is cheaper than skip hire and we do all the hard work for you so you don’t have to.
We provide skips, but not the labour to load them. If you require assistance loading your skip, you might find it more convenient to hire our man with a van junk removal service instead. It’s less expensive than skip rental and we handle all the loading for you.
You can only fill your skip to the height of the sides; otherwise, the skip delivery driver may refuse to pick it up. This is due to the dangers of driving with an overloaded skip. Penalties may be applied to an overloaded skip or contents may have to be removed.
The standard hire period for a skip is between 5 and 7 days, which gives plenty of time for most home projects and clearouts. If you find that you need the skip for longer than this, simply call the office and we can amend your collection date for you. Extended hire can usually be arranged for a small additional cost. Please note that if the hire exceeds the standard period without notifying us, additional fees may be incurred.
Skips are designed for non-hazardous waste, and our skips can take most common items covering almost everything our customers need to dispose of. You can fill your skip with soil and rubble, tiles and bricks, wood and plastics, cardboard and paper, textiles and furniture, astro turf, carpet, underlay and rubber matting, general garden waste, baths, sinks and toilets, general household junk (books, toys, bric-a-brac, garden tools), and metal items such as bikes and beds.
However, for insurance, regulatory, and health and safety reasons, certain items are prohibited and cannot go in a skip. These include asbestos, batteries, clinical waste, electrical equipment (WEEE), fluorescent tubes, fridges/freezers, gas bottles and cylinders, liquids, paint/paint tins, plasterboard, oil/petrol/diesel, solvents, toxic waste, TVs/computer screens, tyres, food waste, and explosives or other dangerous chemicals. Mixing hazardous waste with non-hazardous waste is against the law and requires special permits and skip containers.
If you want an alternative option or need to chat, why not try our man with a van junk removal service. Two guys call to your home in a van, it’s cheaper than skip hire and we do all the hard work for you.
The cost of hiring a skip will vary depending on your location and the size of the skip you require. If you are unsure what to pick please use our waste calculator to help you decide on your best options.
Yes — clothes, furniture, carpets, and general household waste are fine. Avoid hazardous waste, liquids, and food scraps
Standard furniture is fine, but upholstered items like sofas are classed as POPs (Persistent Organic Pollutants) and often need a dedicated skip.
You should never fill your skip above the top edges of the sides. An overfilled skip is a safety hazard, waste can fall out during transport and cause injury to other road users. If a skip is overfilled, the driver may refuse to collect it until the excess waste is removed, which could lead to delays. Overloaded skips may also incur additional charges. To avoid any issues, make sure all waste sits level with or below the top of the skip. If you find you have more waste than expected, give us a call and we can arrange a solution.
Not always. While the price per cubic yard can be lower with a larger skip, you could end up paying more overall if you don’t actually need the extra space. It’s better to choose the right size for your project rather than sizing up unnecessarily. For example, if your waste fits in a 4-yard skip starting from €229.99, there’s no need to pay for a 6-yard skip from €409.99. If you’re unsure, send us a WhatsApp photo of your waste and we’ll recommend the best size to save you money
A standard skip in Ireland typically refers to a 4-yard skip, which starts from €229.99 with Kollect. Prices vary depending on your location and the size you choose. Our full range starts from €194.99 for an extra small (2.5-yard) skip, right up to €499.99 for an extra-large skip. All prices include delivery, collection, and responsible disposal of your waste, no hidden fees.
Yes, skip bags are generally cheaper than traditional skips and are a great option for smaller jobs. They’re ideal if you don’t have the space for a full-sized skip on your property or driveway. Skip bags are perfect for garden clearouts, small DIY projects, or one-off tidy-ups. You can check our skip bag options here to compare sizes and prices. If you’re not sure which is right for your project, give us a call and we’ll help you decide.
A full-sized skip (8-yard) starts from €434.99 with Kollect, and our extra-large skips start from €499.99. These are ideal for large renovation projects, house clearouts, or construction waste. Prices include delivery, collection, and disposal. For an even bigger load, consider our junk removal service where a two-man crew does all the heavy lifting for you, it can work out cheaper than skip hire for certain jobs.
Yes, skips come in a range of sizes to suit different projects. At Kollect, we offer extra small (2.5-yard) skips for minor clean-ups, small (4-yard) skips for DIY projects, medium (6-yard) skips for mid-sized renovations, large (8-yard) skips for bigger jobs, and extra-large skips for major clearouts. Each size is suited to a different volume of waste, for example, a small skip holds around 25–30 bin bags, while an extra-large skip can hold up to 140 bin bags. Check our skip hire size guide for a full breakdown.
A 4-yard skip can hold approximately 25–30 bin bags or around 4 wheelie bins’ worth of waste. It’s a popular choice for small DIY projects, bathroom renovations, garden tidy-ups, or clearing out a single room. Common items include old furniture, garden waste, general household junk, wood, and light building materials. If you think you’ll have more waste than this, consider stepping up to a 6-yard skip which holds around 50–60 bin bags.
Yes, you can absolutely share a skip with a neighbour, it’s a great way to split the cost. Just make sure both parties are aware of what can and can’t go in the skip, as prohibited items could result in the skip being refused for collection. The person who booked the skip is responsible for ensuring only accepted waste is loaded. If you’re both doing a clearout at the same time, sharing a larger skip can be a very cost-effective option.
If the skip is placed on your own private property (such as your driveway or garden), you do not need a permit. However, if the skip needs to be placed on a public road, footpath, or any council-owned land, you will need to obtain a permit from your local authority. Permit requirements and fees vary by county, so it’s best to check with your local council before booking. Our team can advise you on this when you get in touch, just give us a call or send a WhatsApp.
